Vanessa, better known as the “afroconservative”, has been working in the inner city for the last several years. She grew tired of being angry with the purported “white establishment” for issues plaguing the black community and began reading profusely about the history of African Americans. Through her research she discovered that most of the issues in the inner city began in the 1960’s, as Political paradigms began to shift with increasing influence from progressivism.
Since then, Vanessa decided to embark on a quest to “emancipate” mainstream black society from their monolithic allegiance to the “Party of the people”. Her goal is not necessarily to turn every black person into like minded individuals, but rather get more Black people to see that there is life, opportunity, and potential by breaking free from party endorsed social programs. She is a self-described “urban conservative” who believes in strong families, school choice vouchers, and fiscal policies that help lift people out of poverty-not perpetuate deleterious cycles of government dependence.
Vanessa holds a Master’s degree in Counseling but she is currently working towards a second Master’s Degree in Political Economy. She is a devout Christian and she sings and plays several instruments including the piano and violin. She also calls herself the “Nappy Head Republican” because she loves un-chemically processed hair just as much as she does conservative principles. She is currently working on her first book. Her polemical style will make you smile-at the same time, she makes very substantive claims about the issues in her community and what she feels are the respective political prescriptions.
